Business ethics

What is business ethics?

Why do we have such a phrase, or concept?

Because being in business is to make good things by doing good things. Business ethics overrides its efficiency.

The Death of Socrates…. The forms of justice within the individual conscience must guide us toward the action of what is right and true.

Question: is it worse to suffer injustice or commit it?

Answer: it is worse to commit injustice, because the person commits injustice becomes injustice person.

Period.

The power of Yes

Life has ups and downs.

When you got thrown into a storm, you always want to ask why? And think what could you do differently… You may make scenarios, stories, and absorb your energy into it, spend time to figure out.

You began running in circles, could not get out.

Deep breath, deep breath, deep breath…

It is the time to call a stop.

It is the time to see what has happened to you.

How does this make you feel physically? Your shoulders, your back, your heart beats, your head, your stomach, and your sleep…

Are you happy? Do you enjoy life? What can you do to make you feel fresh, energetic, innovative again?

Accept whatever life gives you. Say yes to life. Embrace life with open arms and hands.

Catch the moments when you make senators and stories. You can not go back to undo what was done. Change your thinking by looking at them and let them go bypass you.

It takes emotional labor to face the uncomfortableness, to expose your vulnerability, and to make a shift.

And you can do it.

When life throw you a lemon, make it a lemonade.

Say yes to life.

Little things in life

When you watch a movie, the heroine inspires you so much, you adore her and wonder how can you become her one day…

The “Wonder Woman” grows little by little, day by day, like every one of us. She practices, gets trained, gets educated, does her homework, surrounded herself with great minds, and kind souls. Therefore, she becomes the Wonder Woman.

You can make a difference by doing little things every day.

  • Be generous, hold the door for people behind you
  • Be generous, listen to your colleagues’ struggles
  • Be generous, offer your insights to your friends, colleagues, strangers
  • Be generous, offer your assertions to others
  • Be generous, give your kindness away

Small actions requires your courage, vulnerability, sensibility, empathy, and leadership.

Start one step at a time, you can become your Wonder Woman, you can change life. You can change a world.

In the state of emergency

When facing an emergency: house fire, locked out, water pipe burst at home… what would you do?

I live in a high rise apartment, which is located in a beautiful mature community. There is water plug on the west wall of my nice balcony. It may be intended for installing a wash machine once upon a time. It seems never has been used. This sunny afternoon, the water plug decided to bounce out of the water pipe from the wall and enjoy the warm nice sunshine…

I was at home, luckily. But I was the only one at home at this very moment. I used my fingers and palm to stop the water from shooting to my curtains, tea table, book shelf on the balcony. How am I going to stop the water without using my hands? How can I reduce the water damage to our belongings and neighbor?

I run into the bathroom, pulled out a basin to deflect the water from shooting everywhere, and called my building manager. She is my angel. She run to my building, climbed to my high floor, turned off the faucet from the control room, and called our maintenance guy. She did all these smoothly and quickly. Then she helped me cleaned out the water on the balcony. The maintenance guy told me it’s an old plastic plug, it’s due for replacement…

This reminds me another emergency happened a few months ago.

It was a warm nice day in May. My daughter went out for a run in the afternoon. I was at work. She texted me and said she was locked out. Her key could not unlock the door. I harried home. My key did not work either. My husband was on a trip. We run out of luck to get in.

Then I spotted the locksmith phone number on my door. Is this legit number? I called the building manager. She gave me a police office number to get a registered locksmith. It turned out it is the same number on my door!

Within 15 minutes, he came, showed us his ID, and replace our lock…

Emergencies do happen in life.

When emergency happens,

  • you need make quick decisions, be decisive to reduce potential damage, risk
  • You need help and support from people you trust
  • Community’s support is important, have yourself surrounded a reliable community, a circle, a capable group

Deal with emergency is a collective action. It takes an army.
